5 Ridiculously Easy Homemade Dog Treats (5 Ingredients or Less)

Homemade dog treats have a reputation for being complicated. Hours in the kitchen. Hard-to-find ingredients. Recipes that call for a food processor, a piping bag, and patience you definitely don't have at 8pm on a Tuesday.

These are not those treats.

Every recipe below uses 5 or fewer ingredients, takes under 30 minutes (most under 15), and requires nothing beyond a bowl, a baking sheet, and an oven. Your dog will absolutely lose their mind over them. We promise.

Before You Start: What to Never Use

A quick safety reminder. These ingredients are toxic to dogs — even in small amounts:

  • Xylitol (a sweetener found in many peanut butters — always check the label)
  • Chocolate
  • Grapes and raisins
  • Onions and garlic
  • Macadamia nuts

Always use xylitol-free peanut butter. Brands like Jif Natural and Smucker's Natural are safe. Brands like Nuts 'N More and some store brands are not.

Recipe 1: 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Bites

What you need: 1 cup oats • ½ cup xylitol-free peanut butter • 1 ripe banana

How to make it: Mash banana. Mix in peanut butter and oats. Roll into balls. Refrigerate 1 hour. Done. No baking required.

Yield: About 20 marble-sized treats. Keeps in fridge 5 days, freezer 2 months.

Recipe 2: Frozen Pumpkin Pops

What you need: 1 cup canned plain pumpkin • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt • 2 tbsp xylitol-free peanut butter

How to make it: Blend all three together. Pour into an ice cube tray or silicone mold. Freeze 2–3 hours. Pop out and serve straight from the freezer.

Perfect for hot days. Pairs beautifully with our CoolPaws Ice Silk Cooling Mat for the ultimate summer comfort combo.

Recipe 3: Sweet Potato Chews

What you need: 2 medium sweet potatoes • That's it.

How to make it: Preheat oven to 250°F. Slice sweet potatoes lengthwise, about ⅓ inch thick. Place on a baking rack. Bake 3–4 hours, flipping once. Cool completely — they crisp up as they cool.

Single-ingredient, zero preservatives, and dogs go absolutely wild for them. Keeps in the fridge 2 weeks, freezer 3 months.

Recipe 4: Banana Oat Training Treats

What you need: 1 banana • 1 egg • 1½ cups oat flour (or blended oats)

How to make it: Mash banana. Mix in egg. Stir in flour. Roll thin and cut into small squares. Bake at 350°F for 12–15 minutes.

Small size = perfect for training. Low calorie but high reward. These are ideal treats for the snuffle mat enrichment sessions in our 30-Day Enrichment Plan.

Recipe 5: No-Bake Chicken Bites

What you need: 1 cup cooked shredded chicken (plain, no seasoning) • ½ cup oats • 2 tbsp low-sodium chicken broth

How to make it: Mix all together. Roll into marble-sized balls. Refrigerate 1 hour. Use within 3–5 days, or freeze up to a month.

These are high-value treats — meaning your dog will work hard for them. Save these for recall training and the commands they're still learning.
